Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- What is StatsAPEC?
StatsAPEC is a statistics portal managed by the APEC Policy Support Unit (PSU). Annual data from 1989 to the present is provided for all APEC member economies as well as aggregates for APEC and the World. StatsAPEC consists of two databases: the Key Indicators Database (KID) and the Bilateral Linkages Database (BLD).
- What is the Key Indicators Database (KID)?
The KID has been developed to facilitate the analysis of trade, financial, and socio-economic trends in the Asia-Pacific region. This database includes over 120 indicators spread across 15 categories.
- What is the Bilateral Linkages Database (BLD)?
The BLD facilitates the analysis of bilateral trade and investment flows between APEC economies. This database includes several indicators illustrating merchandise trade, foreign direct investment, portfolio investment assets, and bank lending linkages.
- Where does StatsAPEC source its data?
Data is sourced from a range of reputable providers, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the World Bank, and the United Nations.
- How often does StatsAPEC update the data?
The APEC PSU regularly updates StatsAPEC twice a year: once in June and another in December. Additional updates are provided as needed.
- How are APEC aggregates calculated?
APEC aggregates are either sums, simple averages, or weighted averages based on population, gross domestic product (GDP), and trade data, as applicable. APEC aggregates are calculated only if data is available for at least two-thirds of the APEC economies. In the case of weighted averages, the aggregates are calculated only if the data available also represents at least two-thirds of the value of weights in that year. If a data point is unavailable for an economy, then that economy is excluded in the calculation of the APEC aggregate for that year.
